The story of my photographic career began when I left my native Leicester to go and study photography at Nottingham Trent University.
While studying, I worked as part of the promotions and marketing teams at a local venue and as part of a small team that ran a couple of independent club nights throughout the city. My photography skills were utilised to shoot club night portraits and candid shots and get small vox pops and video footage of the events we put on. This occasionally included live performances from bands.
At the same time around 2009/10, I struck up a friendship with members of a local band, Heck (FKA Baby Godzilla) and frequently attended their gigs which I photographed, their incredibly intense and active performances are what cemented my love for live music photography, to the point where I tagged along on their very DIY tour of Poland as a documentary photographer and used the images for an end-of-year project at university.
After graduating, I used the contacts I made through work while studying to approach a host of local music venues about offering a bespoke service capturing live shows of their choice. These same venues have provided me with steady freelance work since.
This has led me to have work featured in NME, Vice/ Noisey, BBC, and Fred Perry Subculture. As well as locally in the Nottingham Post, Leftlion Magazine and the Leicester Mercury.
Simultaneously I began working for a local design agency as a Studio Project Manager and Photographer. As part of an incredible creative team, we specialised in web development, graphic design and commercial photography (primarily product-based for e-commerce and marketing campaigns). Our client roster mainly consisted of global fashion, lifestyle and culture brands.
In 2023 I took a year out of work to travel the world with my wife. An unforgettable and truly inspiring trip, full of once-in-a-lifetime experiences that I can’t wait to incorporate into future projects.
